Rill

Pulled from the river as an egg on the night of a storm, Rill was raised in secret by the ferrywoman Suri.

What lives at the bottom of the wide river

The River Guardian

A vast gliding shape under the storm, glimpsed only as a glowing belly line and one enormous eye.

The child that was given a name

Sedge

Hatched from the grave mound on the Old Wall, twenty years after the flood, and raised by the ferrywoman Teva.

The child that was given a bell

Mere

The second egg from the night of the storm, kept for twenty years in a dry pit under a grain barn.
